There’s more camaraderie around appreciating the body you have, no matter the shape or size, and it’s something we’ve always believed in. THE HYPE ABOUT SELF-LOVE

Where did this worldwide push for self-love come from? We can’t say for certain, but with the evolution of communication and social media, we’re guessing people realized they’re a lot more like their neighbors than the people they see on TV and in movies. Instead of trying to fit into a mold of what’s trending, people are realizing that being beautiful doesn’t have any criteria.

4 BEAUTY HACKS FOR LOVING THE SKIN YOU’RE IN

Expensive creams and serums can be fun, but the real beauty hacks are simple (and free).

  1. Positive Affirmations
    Speaking kindly to oneself is one of the easiest ways to hype yourself up. It also helps improve activity in the self-processing regions of the brain. [1] This is where we understand things like motivation and empathy. In one study, Dr. Masaru Emoto hypothesizes that positive affirmations may prove to support healthy cells. This study is known as the rice test – you speak kindly to one jar of rice and negatively to another. Many people who have tried the study for themselves agreed that the negatively spoken to jar molds much quicker. [2] Positive self-talk is a great beauty hack, as it creates positive neural pathways for you to continue to speak and believe kind things about yourself.
  2. Slow Down Your Routine
    Taking life in bite-sized pieces may seem like an odd way to experience self-love, but stick with us for a second. When we let life fly by, we can become overwhelmed more easily. This type of stress can lead to overthinking and anxiety, and it becomes a snowball effect. When we slow life down, we have more room to reflect, learn, and change course. Even something as simple as being present while we do our skin care routine can help us feel more loving towards ourselves than when we rush through it.
  3. Community Support
    This is a fun one: surround yourself with people who think and speak highly of you. People that lift and light you up and are good for your soul. It’s the beauty hack that keeps on giving. There’s a special bond with friends who can compliment you to no end, and vice versa. There’s so much love back and forth, you can’t help but believe everything they say. You are smart, you are beautiful, you are resilient. Nothing beats a solid support system.
  4. Practice Gratitude
    Last but certainly not least, is gratitude. Gratitude is woven throughout every beauty hack, because it truly is a catalyst for positive change. When we’re feeling down, thinking of all of the things we do have and do make us happy can instantly lift our spirits. The same thing goes for body image — when we remind ourselves of all of the great things about our body and mind, it puts a little pep in your step.
