On St. Patrick’s Day, everyone’s Irish, so sit back and enjoy this Dandy Blend Irish “coffee” recipe. The origin of Irish coffee dates back to 1943. Chef Joe Sheridan whipped up the first Irish coffee after an airplane he was on had to turn back to its origin — Foynes Airport in Limerick, Ireland — with a load of disgruntled passengers. To try and lighten the mood, he concocted what became the world famous Irish coffee. Everyone’s mood immediately lifted and legend has it that the plane was delightfully silent as everyone sipped on their drinks. It was so instantly loved that it became a staple at the airport and neighboring areas, and of course, still is.
Years later, a travel writer brought word of the delicious spiked coffee to San Francisco. The lead chef at the famous Buena Vista hotel traveled all the way to Ireland to learn how to perfect the recipe from Sheridan himself. The hotel became known for serving up authentic Irish coffee and continues through today. Now, every corner of the world knows and loves Irish coffee.

How to Make A Dandy Blend Irish Coffee
Of course, we had to Dandy Blend-ify the legendary Irish coffee. It’s a dangerously simple recipe, so be sure to pace yourself when enjoying them.
In a separate cup or mug, start by making your “coffee” base, which is a generous teaspoon of Dandy Blend and one cup of hot water. It will dissolve seamlessly. In the cup you want to drink out of, add a shot of whiskey and a bit of maple syrup. Next, pour the warm Dandy Blend over the whiskey mixture. Then, pour heavy cream over the back of a spoon to make it float atop the rest of the drink. If you use a dairy-free cream, it will not float as well, so no need to dirty a spoon. Don’t worry, it will be just as tasty regardless. The final step is to sprinkle a little bit of nutmeg over the top, and enjoy.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day and we can’t wait to see your Irish Dandy Blend concoctions.
