Should You Drink Smoothies in the Winter?
Having smoothies in the winter isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it’s important to tweak your recipes to match the seasons. The summer may be a great time for a berry-packed recipe, but as the weather and our bodies adjust to winter, it’s a good time to incorporate seasonal ingredients like warming spices.
According to Ayurveda, we should consume more warming foods in the winter. This doesn’t necessarily mean food that’s hot, but ones that promote warmth in the body. Examples of this are black pepper, ginger, and cinnamon. Adding a pinch of any of these to your smoothies will help keep your body optimized during the winter, and won’t alter the taste of your smoothies much, if at all.
