What is a Spicy Hot Cocoa

A spicy hot cocoa is a standard hot chocolate leveled up a notch. In other words, it’s your tried-and-true hot chocolate recipe with a dash of spice. In this recipe, we use cayenne pepper. It has a nice zest to it, without being an overwhelmingly spicy beverage. That’s why even some kids and teenagers love it. You can always adjust the spice level to meet your needs, whether that be turning the heat up or down.

How to make a Spooky, Spicy Hot Cocoa with Dandy Blend

Need fun, but practical Halloween recipes? This spicy hot cocoa is a crowd-pleaser for friends and family of all ages. You’ll start with a solid hot chocolate base—milk of choice, cream (non-dairy works, but cow’s cream will provide a richer finish), semi-sweet chocolate, and sugar. We also add Dandy Blend, of course, and this recipe loves a hint of vanilla, a pinch of salt, and a dash of cayenne. You’ll melt all of your ingredients together in a pot until smooth, then serve hot. To make it the ultimate Halloween hot chocolate, you can top with partially melted marshmallows to create a web-like mug cover.

Recipe

Spicy, Spooky Hot Cocoa Recipe with Dandy Blend:

  • 2 cups milk of choice
  • 2 cups cream of choice
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Dandy Blend
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅛ – ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper, depending on spice preference
  • Pinch of salt

Directions:

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a pot over medium-low heat.
  2. Stir continuously until smooth and chocolate is completely melted.
  3. Serve warm.
  4. If you’d like to Halloween-ify your presentation, partially melt some large marshmallows with a little bit of butter and use a knife to create a web-like covering of your hot chocolate mugs. This is a completely optional step for if you’re hosting or want a fun photo-op.
