What are Twix Bars?

A traditional Twix bar is a popular candy bar made of multiple sweet layers. It starts with a crunchy, cookie-like base, topped with a smooth layer of caramel, then drenched in a layer of chocolate. While this treat offers a delightful mix of texture and flavor, it’s not made with the best ingredients. Which is why we decided to make our own homemade Twix bars with ingredients you can feel good about. We also thought it could use a dash of Dandy Blend, if you ask us.

How to Make Homemade Twix Bars with Dandy Blend

This recipe is made up of three important layers. The first is a shortbread-like layer, the second is a smooth, caramel layer, and the final layer is melted chocolate.

To start, heat your oven to 350°F and line a 8 x 8 inch pan with parchment paper. You can use a smaller or larger pan but it will change the size of your layers. The base layer is made with flour, coconut oil, and honey. You’ll want to make sure the coconut oil and honey are both melted and softened before mixing. Combine into a nice, crumbly mixture, then press into your pan in one, even layer. You can easily do this with a silicone spatula. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until nice and golden brown, then let it cool completely.

While your base layer cooks and cools, start with your caramel filling. This is made with a scrumptious mix of almond butter, Dandy Blend, coconut oil, vanilla extract, maple syrup, and sea salt. Combine these ingredients together over low heat until nice and smooth, then set aside to cool completely.

Once cooled, pour the filling over the base layer. Pop in the freezer for at least two hours so that it is completely hardened before adding the chocolate layer. Once you’re ready for the chocolate layer, pour it over in an even layer and then refrigerate for 15-30 minutes. When hardened, cut into small squares or longer rectangles to enjoy. These make for the perfect nighttime snack or movie treat.

Recipe

Homemade Twix Bars with Dandy Blend Ingredients

Base Layer:

  • 1 cup flour (gluten free option: 1/2 cup coconut flour and 1/2 cup almond flour)
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil, softened
  • 3 tbsp honey, melted

Filling:

  • 1/2 cup almond butter (nut free option: sunflower seed butter)
  • 1 tbsp Dandy Blend
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • Sea salt

Chocolate coating:

  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil, softened

Directions:

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 350°F and line a 8 x 8 inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. Combine your flour, coconut oil, and honey in a large bowl until thoroughly combined.
  3. Pack down the base layer into your pan using a silicone spatula or add a layer of parchment paper and flatten with your hands.
  4. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until just light golden brown. Refrigerate while making the filling so the base layer is cooled before layering.
  5. Whisk together almond butter, Dandy Blend, coconut oil, vanilla, maple syrup and sea salt in a saucepan over low heat until completely smooth. Remove from warm burner and let cool completely.
  6. In a separate saucepan, melt your chocolate and coconut oil until melted and smooth. You may also microwave in 10 second increments, whisking in between.
  7. Once your base layer and filling are completely cooled, carefully pour the filling over the base layer, spreading out evenly with a spatula. Freeze until completely hardened, at least 2 hours.
  8. Once frozen, pour the final layer of melted chocolate. Add some coarse sea salt and let it harden in the refrigerator for 15-30 minutes.
  9. Finally, cut into desired shapes (we like long rectangles or small squares) and enjoy.
